The College of Environmental Science and Safety Engineering was founded in 2002, it was strategically founded by the university in response to the national and regional socio-economic development needs, particularly the growing demand in ecological and protection, emergency management, and related industries. Over the years, the college has developed into a dynamic discipline cluster and a talent cultivation base characterized by sustainable, sound, and rapid growth.

The college currently provides four undergraduate programs, namely Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, and Emergency Technology and Management. It is authorized confer master’s degrees in two first-level disciplines, namely Environmental Science and Engineering, and Safety Science and Engineering, as well as a professional master’s degree in Resources and Environment. Notably, Environmental Science and Engineering has been recognized as a Tianjin Municipal Key Discipline.

The college hosts several high-level research platforms: the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Safe Disposal and Resource Utilization of Hazardous Waste, and the Tianjin Engineering Research Center of Green Chemical Industry and Waste Resource Utilization. In addition, the discipline cluster of Industrial Green Low-Carbon Technology and Resource Recycling has been selected as a Tianjin Municipal Characteristic Discipline Cluster for Universities Serving Industrial Development..

Safety Engineering and Environmental Engineering have both been approved as national first-class undergraduate programs and have successfully passed the engineering education accreditation conducted by the Ministry of Education of China.

The college currently has 73 faculty and staff members, including 57 full-time instructors. Among them, 35 faculty members hold senior or associate senior professional titles, and 86% of the professional teaching staff possess doctoral degrees, constituting a distinguished teaching team with high academic standing and a well-structured composition.

In terms of talent cultivation, the college has trained more than 6,000 graduates for society. At present, the total enrollment includes 1,364 undergraduate students and 289 postgraduate students. To meet the growing demand for high-caliber innovative professionals in environmental protection and work safety, the college actively implements an integrated industry-university-research training model and has continuously improved the quality of talent cultivation.
